We've all heard that the character of a man can be defined by what he does when no one is looking. This is true and I wholeheartedly believe it. I feel it goes much further however.
One question I have about the above statement is, if no one is looking, how do we know what they are doing? Well over the years I've noticed that there are things people do that will tip someone off as to their character or lack thereof. For instance, there is a certain order as to how things should be attended to. Number one, I feel, is your faith followed closely by your family. If you are not willing to take care of these important aspects of life first, then where are your priorities? You more than likely have a "What's in it for me" approach to life. People like this make me ill. They want to reap the rewards without putting in the time. Some people will only go out of their way when it benefits them and again, this makes me ill. I'm reminded of a quote by James D. Miles, "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him."
Watch people tomorrow. Look at their actions. See if they actually show good character.
I'll leave you with this, step up you of little character. Do the right thing not because it will benefit you but simply because it's the right thing to do.
